Robert Keel Harmon, 88, died Thursday, June 16, 2016, after an illness. Mr. Harmon was born in Florence, a son of the late James Evans Harmon, Sr., and Mary Elizabeth Keel Harmon. He graduated from Lower Richland High School and attended the University of South Carolina. Mr. Harmon was a veteran of the United States Air Force, where he was an airborne radio instructor. He retired from AT&T after 38 years as an engineering supervisor. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Florence for over 50 years, and was affiliated with the media ministry for the past 25 years. He was a member and past president of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was also a member of The Gideons International. As a member of the Kiwanis Club in Florence, he was awarded the George Hickson Fellowship Award. He was also a life member of the amateur radio/HAM radio operators association. He was predeceased by his wife, Virginia Hancock Harmon; a sister, Mary Elizabeth Mauk; and two brothers, James Evans Harmon, Jr., and William Hayne Harmon. |
