John W. Smith, devoted husband and father, passed away September 2, 2013 at the age of 86. Raised in Amarillo, Texas where he met the love of his life, Frances Sanders, he enlisted in the Navy during World War II, graduated from the University of Texas and worked as a Regional Sales Manager for Rexnord before retiring to his long held practice of making neighborhood repairs. He was preceded in death by his parents, John E. and Mabel Smith; his wife of 62 years, Frances; and his brother Alan Smith. He is survived by his son, John L. Smith and wife Twyala of Dallas; daughters Janet Foley and husband Joe of Uvalde, TX and Teal Smith-Pitkin and husband Barry of Alexandria, VA; grandsons Harper Foley, Scott Pitkin and Chasen Pitkin; and many neighbors and friends. A visitation from 10:30 a.m. to noon September 12 at the North Dallas Funeral Home will be immediately followed by an escorted procession to the DFW National Cemetery for a brief graveside service.
