Donald Edward Guy, DVM, U.S. Army retired, died Dec. 9, 2018, at the home of Dennis and Mary Guy-Sell in Varick, N.Y., after a brief illness. He was 96. Don was born May 11, 1922, in Hartford City, Ind., the eldest child of Hazel and Dennis Guy. He graduated from Hartford City High School and The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He enlisted in the Army in 1941, beginning a 32-year career that took him to numerous posts around the United States as well as duty in Korea, Okinawa, Bolivia and Denmark. He retired as a full colonel and director of subsistence at the Defense Personnel Support Center in Philadelphia. Don enjoyed skeet shooting, cross country travel and serving his fellow man. He was a member of Rotary International, the Coachella Valley Amateur Radio Club, Quarter Century Wireless Association, and the Army and Navy MARS amateur radio networks. He held leadership roles in the Boy Scouts of America, Wally Byam (Airstream) Caravan Clubs and The Mariners of Palm Desert Community Presbyterian Church. He also served on the planning advisory board of the city of Rancho Mirage, Calif., and as coordinator of amateur radio communications for the Riverside County (Calif.) Emergency Management Agency.

He is survived by twin sons Dennis (Mary) of Varick, N.Y. and Donald Jr. (Eilene "Heidi") of Sandusky, Ohio and Trumansburg, N.Y.; granddaughter, Anne-Marie of Fargo, N.D.; grandson, Alan (Sumi) of Brooklyn, N.Y.; great-grandson, Lincoln; and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Margaret (Bartley) Guy; and his brothers, Paul and Gerald.

Following the colonel's orders, cremation has taken place. Graveside services with military honors will be conducted in the spring in Englewood, Ohio, where inurnment will be beside his wife, Marge. Arrangements are being handled by Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, Trumansburg, N.Y. Memorial donations may be made to Coachella Valley Rescue Mission, Indio, Calif.; Living Desert Zoo and Gardens, Palm Desert, Calif.; or a charity of the donor's choice.
