Ernest "Ernie" Crewdson, 96, of Fort Collins passed away May 2, 2019. He was born September 20, 1922 at Burnley, Lancashire, England to Frederick Mason Crewdson and Betty Bracewell Crewdson.
In 1923, the family emigrated via Ellis Island to Rochester, NY, where he was raised. He attended Rochester Public Schools, including preparatory classes at The Eastman School of Music and graduated with a BS Degree with a major in Optics from The University of Rochester.
Ernie served in WWII and graduated from the U S Naval Midshipman School, in New York, NY (Columbia University) in 1945 as an Ensign.
In 1947, Ernie married Marjorie Rockwell, subsequently having four children.
He was employed by The Eastman Kodak Company for over 40 years, starting in the Research Laboratories at Kodak Park in Rochester, NY. He later transferred to film manufacturing where he served in various technical and administrative positions. In 1975, he was transferred to the Kodak Colorado Division located in Windsor, CO. from which he retired in 1983.
In his younger years he was active in the Masonry, including Knights Templar. Over the years he enjoyed backpacking, day hiking, Alpine and Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, traveling and fly fishing. His other hobby was his involvement with Amateur Radio (Currently having the call sign KDOFY). Ernie was president of the Rochester Amateur Radio Association of which he was an honorary lifetime member. He was also a Lifetime Member of North Colorado Chapter 143 of the Quarter Century Wireless Association.
Ernie self-published two family genealogies, his family history and a completely documented family ancestry. He was an avid photographer, both film and digital, presently having an elaborate desktop darkroom. Other interested included astronomy, philately, playing the piano and the theatre organ. He was also an avid British Brass Band enthusiast, particularly the Salvation Army Bands.
Ernie recently served over four years as a volunteer Travel Counselor at the Colorado Welcome Center on Prospect Road and I-25. He served as an ordained Elder at Dewey Avenue Presbyterian Church, Rochester, NY, and also at Summerville Presbyterian Church, Irondequoit, NY. He sang in the adult choirs at both churches for over 25 years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Fort Collins, CO.
Ernie is survived by his loving wife of over 60 years, Marjorie; sons, Robert Alan Crewdson of Bakersfield, CA., James Ernest Crewdson of Thornton, CO. and Thomas David Crewdson of Lakewood, CO.; a daughter, Carole Ann (Anne) Crewdson of Westcliffe, CO.; seven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
