ALEXANDER, William R. Jr. William R. Alexander Jr., 95, of Toledo, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2009, at Swan Creek Retirement Village. He was born April 13, 1913 in Columbus, OH and was the son of William R. Alexander Sr. and Lucy (Stackhouse) Alexander.
Bill attended high school at Libbey and DeVilbiss. He also attended the University of Toledo, School of Engineering, for 3 years.
Bill served honorably during WW II as a X-Ray technician, in the 8th Army Air Force, in Duxford, England.
He was a former member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church and the YMCA, as a youth. He was also a member of Augsburg Lutheran Church, Toledo Mobil Radio Association and served as a Cub Scout / Boy Scout leader for Troop 133.
Bill worked for Seltzer's Motors for over 30 years and was a senior lab technician at Champion Spark Plug, for 17 years, where he retired.
He enjoyed being an Amateur Radio (Ham) Operator, KD8YC. He also enjoyed computers, camping and fishing.
Survivors include his sons, Lawrence R. (Colleen) Alexander and Richard B. (Cynthia) Alexander; grandchildren, Steven (Jami) Alexander and Stephanie (Charlie) Edwards and great granddaughter, Kaitlin Ann Edwards. Also surviving is his sister, Lucy Alexander; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Alexander and Mary Alexander and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Doris (Yoder) Alexander and brothers, Maurice Alexander and Edwin Alexander.
Friends are invited to visit from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, in the Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 Sylvania Avenue, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. Interment will be in Toledo Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to Augsburg Lutheran Church or the donor's favorite charity.
