From the book, The Fighting Men of Oklahoma: SSGT Lund was inducted into the service at Lawton OK and received his training at March Field CA. He served 18 months in the ETO participating in the battles of St. Lo, Normandy, England, the Bulge, Rhine Valley and Central Germany. He was one of the selected pilots of 1st Army HQ serving under GEN "Pepe" Quesada, 9th TAC Air Force. SGT Lund was commended by GEN Hodges, 1st Army for participation against the enemy in the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Air Medal, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, EAME Medal w/6 Battle Stars, Allied Ribbon, Occupation Ribbon, Expert Rifleman's and Pistolman's Badges, Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
