Marty Rosenthal, dear husband, loving brother, generous uncle, cousin, stepfather and wonderful friend, passed away January 14, 2018.
To know Marty, was to love him; so many people did, and he loved and treasured them all.
Marty grew up in Akron Ohio, graduated from Buchtel High School, Indiana University and Ohio State Medical School.
He left the Midwest and ventured west to Phoenix, eventually settling in Tucson. There he built his medical career, spending many years working as an Emergency Room doc at St Mary's Hospital.
He fell in love with Telluride, CO in the early 80's, purchased eight acres in Wilson Mesa and built his rustic log home, an accomplishment of which he was very proud. Marty was an adventurer, traveling around the world. He enjoyed hiking, skiing, fishing, learning to sail and fly glider planes, and playing racquetball. He was an avid reader with a quick mind, generous soul, and open heart, who loved to tease, joke and laugh. He had a childish and corny sense of humor, never failing to at least amuse himself.
He had strong opinions and stood up for what he believed was right and just. He was proud of his personal freedom and independence.
Marty was always there for everyone, the go-to person for advice of any sort, be it medical or shopping (he always knew how to get the best deal). Everyone has special memories of Marty and he knows you will keep him in your hearts forever.
Marty is survived by his loving wife, Julie Powers; sisters, Robin Rosenthal and Ruthellen Fein; brother, Bennett Rosenthal; adoring nephews, Mat, Jeff, Eli, Zachary; and nieces, Aleah and Kimberly; great-niece, Carter; and step-son, Gabriel.
There will be three Celebrations of his life, first in Maui, where he resided in the winter, on Sunday, January 21, 2018. The second will be in Tucson AZ on Friday, March 30, 2018. The third one will be at his home in Telluride, CO, on his 70th birthday, Thursday, June 14, 2018.
Please contact Robin at rar22@comcast.net for more information. Donations can be made in Marty's name to Planned Parenthood of Tucson, the Southern Poverty Law Center or the Democratic Party of Colorado.
