BERTRAM GREEN was born on November 23, 1921 and passed away on January 8, 2015 in Boca Raton, FL.
Bert was first licensed in 1938 at age 16 in New York. He held the call W2LPC continuously until relocation to Florida when he became KN4OU.
At the March 2013 meeting of the Palm Beach Chapter, Bert received the QCWA 75 year service award from Chapter President Tom Thompson, W2TMT and National Director Jeff Beals, WA4AW.
Bert has been a member of ARRL since 1941. He received a plaque from ARRL commemorating his 70 years of continuous membership in 2011.
After service with the Navy during WW II, Bert joined the Hicksville, NY vacuum tube manufacturer Amperex in 1949. He rose thru the ranks at Amperex from maintenance technician, engineer, R & D engineering manager to marketing manager until his retirement in 1984.
Bert contributed an article to CQ Magazine which appeared in their June 1956 edition describing a home brew 2 meter transmitter built around Amperex 6360 RF power tubes. The 6360 is the little brother of their 5894 used in many high power VHF transmitters at that time.
After retirement from Amperex, Bert relocated to Palm Beach County, Florida where he joined the West Palm Beach ARC & the Palm Beach
Chapter of QCWA.
