I was born on September 11th,1957 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, Europe. In my first year of high school, I was amaized by Ham Radio. It was 1972. My first license was issued to me in 1973. With in the next two years I upgraded my license to Extra Class, which they call Class "A" in Bulgaria. Since 1972, I have been a member of LZ1KSP, the best Radio Club in Bulgaria. LZ1CW was my instructor for Morse Code. LZ1CY taught me DXing, and LZ1CL was my teacher for contesting. I will never forget them. I received my callsign, LZ1HY, on my birthday in 1979. A Russian Military transmitter U-103, a Japanese receiver ICF-6700W, and a two-element Delta loop for 80 meters and I was on the air. The next year, 1980, I got married. My wife Villy, N9UEO(ex-LZ1HQ) gave me two sons, Lubo (N9UGV) and Rumen.

In 1992, we came to the United States, and settled in Skokie, Illinois. My highest Ham Radio accomplishment came on November 14, 1994, when I received my 5BDXCC (No. 3786). I hope that this year I will receive my 5BWAS and 5BWAZ.
