Bernhard "Barney" M. Amdahl, 90, of McPherson and formerly of Lehigh and Hillsboro, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 9, 2014, at the McPherson Care Center. He was a retired telephone company manager.He was born on October 23, 1923, in Clarkfield, Minnesota, the son of Thormod H. and Laura A. (Olson) Amdahl. He graduated from high school in Montevideo, Minnesota. Barney served in the United States Army Air Corps. In 1946, Barney was united in marriage to Kathryn Marie Backlund in Lindsborg, Kansas. She died in 1970. He married Ingeborg Ernce in 1971 in Westminster, Colorado. She preceded him in death in 2008. Barney attended Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church in Hillsboro, Kansas and was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W., Sons of Norway, and the American Mensa.Survivors include his daughter, Ruth A. Coyle and husband, Louis, of Lehigh, Kansas; son, Kenneth J. Amdahl and wife, Cheryl, of Broomfield, Colorado; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces&nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, wives, five brothers, and one sister. An inurnment of the cremains will take place at the Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado at a later date.Memorial donations may be given to the Barney Amdahl Memorial Fund in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460. |
