Richard (Dick) Carter, 70, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013, in Overland Park. Dick was the son of Ruby and Avery Carter, Yates Center. He was born Oct. 16, 1943, in Aline, Okla.
He was a graduate of Yates Center High School. He graduated from Kansas State University with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and earned a master's degree from the University of Missouri, Kansas City.
He was an engineer with Bendix, now Honeywell, in the Kansas City metro area until his retirement.
Through his amateur radio hobby, Dick was involved with public service activities such as charity walks, triathlons and bike rides. He was a member of the Johnson County Amateur Radio Club, MoKan Council of Amateur Radio Clubs and Johnson County Emergency Services, Inc. He was known for his kindness, caring manner, and enduring smile.
Dick was married to Charlotte Kesterson. She died in 1964. He is survived by his present wife, Kay; sister Penny and her husband, Bob Gaulding; nephew Brandon, Yates Center; and niece Tracy, Bartlesville, Okla. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John's United Methodist Church, 6900 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, Mo. Private burial will take place at a later date.
