After an unforeseen and brief illness, our patriarch, father, grandfather, friend, mentor, and provider has moved on from this life early this morning with loved ones by his side. Spyridon Spyros Nikolaos Varnalis, born in Brăila, Romania in 1926, has lived a long and prosperous life of 94 years. After having lived and worked on a barge on the Danube River, Spyros eventually moved to his native country and settled in Syros, Greece. Then after having met his future wife Evangelia, the two had wed and had two children while in Greece. The young family decided to come to America through a sponsor program, so they moved with two children in tow and ultimately had a third child a few years later. Spyros was fluent in Greek, Romanian and English, a master electrician, engineer, mathematician, tradesman, fisherman, Amateur Radio hobbyist, big cat lover, and also enjoyed European music from many cultures. His mind and wit was as sharp as a tack until the very end. To those who have known or met him, one would find that he was generous, selfless, noble, but also quiet and modest. He was the son of the late Nikolaos Dimitrios and Maria Anastasia Georgios (Aravantinos) Varnalis and preceded in death by his brother, Dimitrios Nikolaos Varnalis. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Evangelia (Varmaxizis) Varnalis; son, Nikolas Varnalis and wife Trish, of Manheim; two daughters, Maria Varnalis, of Harrisburg and Anastasia Weigle and husband, Steven, of Old Orchard Beach, ME; and five grandchildren, Dimitrios Weigle, of Portsmouth, RI, Nikolas Tsilakis and wife, Stacy, of Mechanicsburg, Evangelia Condon, and husband, Cory, of Etters, William Weigle, of Old Orchard Beach, ME, Kristina Varnalis, of Lancaster; family and friends. |
