Mr. Joseph Barkiewicz, 85, of Mayo, FL, passed away Saturday May 26, 2012 in Shands Hospital at the University of Florida following an extended illness. Mr. Barkiewicz was born in Royal Oak, Michigan on June 6, 1926 to the late Anthony Barkiewicz, and the late former, Rose Kurtz. He has been a resident of Mayo since 1990 after moving from Wakulla County, FL. He was a veteran of the US Navy and served with the Seabees in WW#II. He was an electrician by trade and retired from the Florida Power Corporation after 32 years of service. He was of the Episcopal Faith and in his spare time enjoyed Ham radio operating, working on computers, and pencil and pen artwork. He is survived by, his wife of 43 years, Peggy Lonell Barkiewicz, 2 daughters, Mary Jo Story (Jack), and Laurice Simons, 2 sons, Michael Barkiewicz (Karen), and Clay Shuemake (Patty), his mother-in-law, Edna Hines, 8 grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. A graveside committal service will be held Saturday June 2, 2012 in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. All arrangements are under the care of Joe P. Burns Funeral Home of Mayo. |
