Station at 51 Washington St, Phillipsburg, NJ in 1952 when licensed as W2ZVW, age 42.
Some brief background on the Hart family. My grandfather, Edward Hart, played a significant role in Lafayette College's past - retiring from Lafayette in 1924 as the head of the Chemistry Department. He authored many books on chemistry, some of which are still in print! My father's full name was Edward Hart, Jr. with no middle initial. Ironically, I am the only Hart who earned a degree from Lafayette, not surprisingly to you, a BSEE.
I had a bootleg AM station on the air in Phillipsburg, and was paid a visit by the FCC. An incredible irony was that the inspector who paid the visit was another ham with whom my father had worked on an earlier assignment when my father also worked for the FCC. Had I not been able to convince the inspector that my father was unaware of what I was doing, while everyone knew that he did, my father could have suffered sanctions that would have cost him fines and license revocations.
My father was W3NF which he held at the Raubsville, PA location and in Phillipsburg was W2ZVW and for a short time K2FB. My Uncle George was W1NJM in Newington, CT and held W3AMR at Raubsville. There were two other brothers, my father was the eldest of 4; the other two had no interest in electronics. The Raubsville calls were forfeited when my grandmother could no longer live there and the property was sold in about 1965. My grandfather was Edward Hart, who was a PHD in chemistry and was the head of the chemistry department at Lafayette College. He was much older and passed in 1931. He had no interest in electronics but funded my father's early activities in ham radio. I could tell many colorful stories about all that which have been passed down to me.
I graduated from Lafayette in 1959 with an EE degree.
