LAKELAND - Leonard Alfred Postage, 87, of Lakeland, Florida, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2015, at Highland's Lake Center. Leonard was born on October 14, 1927, in Farrell, Pennsylvania, to Melius 'Mitch' and Mildred Postage.
Leonard was a retired Plant Foreman for U.S. Steel and member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church. All his life Leonard was actively involved with all things aviation-related, dedicating himself to the sport of model aviation (AMA 4530) to owning and piloting full-sized aircraft, his last plane being a G35 Bonanza.
He also enjoyed the hobby of Ham Radio to the extent of building his own antenna.
In younger years, he was a stock car racer, served in the Coast Guard, Merchant Marine and Navy and even played a little semi-pro football. Leonard was also very involved in Volunteer work with the Civil Air Patrol, Sun-n-Fun Fly in, creating Model Airplane Clubs as well as donating his woodworking abilities to churches, family and friends.
He is survived by his spouse, Willie R. Postage; sons, John Postage of Greenville, South Carolina, Bob Postage of Chapel Hill North Carolina; daughter, Sandy Gallagher of Salt Lake City Utah; sister, Ethel Mae Sloan of Ocala, Florida; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A gathering of family and friends will begin at 9 a.m., with a chapel service to follow at 10 a.m., on Friday, August 7, 2015, at Lakeland Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens. Interment will follow at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida. Condolences may be offered at: www.lakelandfuneralhome.com .
