Thomas Adams York was born on August 27, 1920 in Dallas, Texas.
He passed from this earth on July 17, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.
He graduated high school at the age of 16 and later earned a degree in chemistry from the University of Texas.
During World War II he enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Sacramento, where he met the love of his life Kathleen Carmen, while attending services at the Oak Park Church of Christ. They were married in Dallas, Texas where he graduated from Baylor Dental School. He later specialized in Orthodontics and often said that led to his spending forty years down in the mouth.
He served as a Captain in the Air Force in Frankfort Germany during the Berlin Air Lift.
A devoted Christian, he served as an elder at the Central Church of Christ in Sacramento for more than thirty years. He was also a board member of the Sierra Children's Home. He was a Founding Member of the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics. An enthusiastic Ham radio operator, he took great joy in talking to people all over the world.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas W. and Gussie Elizabeth York and his sister Marie Bonnell. He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years and 10 months, Kathleen Carmen York, his children Mark York, Sally and Galen Baker, Robin and Cynthia York, as well as his grandchildren, Len and Rachel Baker, Katy and Nathan Franson, Chris Baker, Morgan, Wendy and Thomas York, Emily, Natalie and Ryan York. And also by his great-grandchildren Noah, Amber, Audrey and Elliana Baker and Micah Franson. They so loved their HoHo and have many rich memories to carry with them throughout their lives.
Vaya con Dias Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the Central Church of Christ, 6755 San Joaquin Street in Sacramento.
