First Call: KN9ESO in 1956 Other Call(s): K9ESO
The slain Americans have been identified as Jean and Scott Adam, of Marina del Rey near Los Angeles, and Phyllis Macay, 59 and Bob Riggle, 67 of Seattle, Washington.
The Quest was the home of the Adams who had been sailing around the world since December 2004 with a yacht full of Bibles.
The experienced yacht enthusiasts from California and Washington are the first Americans killed by Somali pirates since the start of attacks off East Africa several years ago.
Pirates had hijacked the 58-foot yacht Quest south of Oman on Friday. Since then, four U.S. warships and sky-high drones shadowed the vessel's movement as pirates tried to sail it to the Somali shore. U.S. officials negotiated with the captors via radio.
Scott was born in IL. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Lawrence University in Appleton, WI, where he majored in theater. Scott was a member of the Director's Guild of America and enjoyed a long career in the motion picture industry. After he retired he received his Masters of Divinity and Masters in Theology, and also pursued doctoral studies at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA.
