BOSOLD, Julius B. March 4, 1931- August 19,2015 Julius B. Bosold, age 84, passed into Eternal Life on August 19, 2015 after a series of strokes. He had resided at Avalon Nursing Home for the last three years where he earned the nickname, "The Legend." He was known for his acerbic wit, intelligence (despite dementia), flirtatious manner with the ladies, voracious appetite, love of coffee and his recliner. He was a favorite.
He was born at "Lying-in Hospital" University of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois on March 4, 1931 to Julius F. Bosold, a carpenter, and Hilda Bourgoyne Bosold, both of whom preceded him in death.
He was raised along with his sister, Hilda in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he learned to play a mean jazz clarinet. His favorite tune was, "When the Saints Go Marching In."
After com pleting high school, he enlisted in the Army National Guard of Louisiana in 1948 , attending the Army's Signal School where he attained the rank of Sergeant as a Chief Radar Operator. He later joined the US Air Force Reserve in 1950 serving in the Mobile Communications Squadron as Airman First Class stationed at Fairchi ld Air Force Base. During the Korean War he served in Libya, North Africa in Army Intelligence.
While stationed at Fairchild, he met Norella "Bernie" Bowles (deceased 2011) whom he married in 1956. They had five beautiful children and later 12 grandchildren. They divorced in 2007.
In 1955, Julius started working for the US Postal Service initially as a guard for US Treasury shipments, then later in maintenance as an electronic technician. He retired as the Head of Maintenance in 1989. After that he worked for various local floor covering firms as an estimator for contract jobs. He later retired from that around 2002. Julius was an all-around handyman. There wasn't much he couldn't fix.
Because of his carpentry background growing up, he would finish off the basements of the houses his family lived in, remodeled various rooms and made lovely vanities for his three daughters. He was also a very enthusiastic Ham Radio operator. His original call sign was WA7DLP. His last call sign was N7DRA, now a silent key. As his children got older, he rekindled his interest in firearms and shooting. He joined and competed for US Practical Shooters where he won several awards for marksmanship. He also accumulated quite a collection of firearms over the years. Julius is survived by his sister Hilda Vaughn of Alabama; son Mark Bosold and his wife Charlotte and their two children Andrew and Anna; daughter Kim Bosold, daughter Julie Watson and her husband Tom and their two daughters Kellie and Maggie, daughter Janella Fall and her husband Dan and their seven children, David, Nathan, Elizabeth, Rachel, Abigail, Hannah and Isaac; son Matthew Bosold and his son James. The family wishes to thank all those involved in their father's care over the years for their time and attention. He grew very fond of many; you know who you are. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, August 28th at 3:00PM at Fairmount Memorial Park's Sunset Mausoleum Chapel, 5200 W. Wellesley, Spokane, WA. Deacon Dan Ritchie will be presiding. The family asks for memorial contributions to the Wounded Warrior Project which Julius supported.
