Sue Simpson, N8AJU, was first licensed in 1978 and presently holds an advanced class license. She has served as secretary and as treasurer of Buckeye Belles and as treasurer of QCWA Chapter 62. Sue functions as sunshine chair for the Friendship Amateur Radio Club and QCWA Chapter 62. She is a life member of QCWA and ARRL, as well as being a member of YLRL, Friendship Amateur Radio Club, and various chapters of QCWA.
She grew up in Portage, Ohio, graduated from the University of Findlay (Ohio), and is a member of Delta Omicron, a music fraternity. Sue was employed by Shinew's Supply, a distributor of automotive and industrial supplies. After she married Ken, W8EK, she moved to North Canton, Ohio where she owned and operated KenMar Industries along with Ken.
Her entire family are amateur radio operators including her husband Ken W8EK, her son Stephen KC8IOY, and father in law, Hugh WA8ETW. Stephen completed grad school at the University of Florida and works as an Electrical and Computer Engineer in a lab where two thirds of the employees have amateur radio licenses.
Sue volunteers for Wycliffe Bible Translators and at Monroe Regional Medical Center where she works for Prestige 55 and is a Health Minister. She is active at Agape Baptist Church where she plays her flute and provides "Health Tips" for the weekly newsletter. Sue was active on the Eye Emergency Net for many years. She volunteered for Orlando Hamcation where she managed the swap building, worked at the QCWA booth, and other activities. You will find her at QCWA tables at many hamfests especially in the southeast. She attends more than 25 hamfests and QCWA meetings each year.
