BENTHALL, John David - age 78, of Burton, passed away Saturday, May 2, 2020 at his residence. A private service will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice. A public gathering will be held at a later date where friends and family can share memories.
John was born in Detroit, MI on December 13, 1941. He graduated from Clio High School in 1959.
After high school John worked for the FBI from 1959 to 1963. He then proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps from 1964 to 1967. In March of 1967 he began his career as a police officer with the City of Flint Police Department. He retired from City of Flint PD in 1992 as Deputy Chief. John was hired by the City of Burton as Police Chief in 1992 and retired in 2001.
He loved riding and traveling on his Harley Davidson. John was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and enjoyed traveling on several European trips with fellow parishioners. He always had his nose in a book and as of late enjoyed spending time with the "St. Andrew's Scotch Society", a monthly scotch tasting with his friends.
John married Karen Kosidlo on April 20, 1968.
John is survived by his loving wife, Karen: daughter, Shannan (Mike) Heaman; granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Allyson Heaman; sisters, Susan (Bob) Mosher and Pam (Rodney) Saucier: brother-in-law, Kenneth Kosidlo; many nieces and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his son, Brett; his parents and in-laws.
