Jerald "Jerry" Heien, 77, of Marengo, IL, passed away peacefully while in hospice care on October 2, 2022, in McHenry, IL. He was born on June 17, 1945, in Chicago, IL to James and Mildred (Dominiczak) Heien. Jerry graduated from Proviso West High School in Hillside, IL in 1964. He worked for Simplex Time Recorder in Rockford, IL until the late 1970's when he started his own fire and security alarm business, Sontec Systems, which later evolved into Jerry Heien Security. Jerry officially retired in 2019. He was very passionate about amateur radio and model railroading. Jerry was a founding member of the McHenry County Wireless Association amateur radio club. His call sign was N9AVY. Jerry is survived by his loving children: Jennifer Heien of Owatonna, MN, Thomas (Kimberly Hart) Heien of The Woodlands, TX, and Sara Heien of Marengo, IL; his grandchildren: Jonathan (Tiah) Heien, Jared Heien, Alysa Heien, Dresden Heien, Moriah (Adam) Torrance, and Kathleen Heien-Carlson; and his great-grandchildren: Keira Heien and Evelyn Heien. He is also survived by his brother James (John Byrne) Haller of South Berwick, ME. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter-in-law, Stephanie (Reid) Heien. A memorial service is being planned for spring 2023.
