Gregory Dean West Lafayette - Gregory Alan Dean, 71, of West Lafayette passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette. He was born on June 1, 1950 in Flint, Michigan to the late Guy and Alberta (Anderson) Dean. He was a graduate of Wainwright High School. He attended Purdue University where he earned his Bachelor's Degree. He was employed with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management in the Clean Air Division as an electronic technician. Gregory also proudly served in the Army National Guard and Army Reserve. He had tours in the Gulf War, Bosnia, Desert Storm, and Afghanistan and was a member of American Legion Post #492. On May, 30, 1976 he married Iris Batta in West Lafayette, IN and she survives. He was active in his church, Connection Point, in West Lafayette. Gregory also had many hobbies and interests. Some of them include showing his Basenji dogs, genealogy, guitar lessons, his extensive antique instrument collection, studying Judaism, and was learning Hebrew. He was also a master gardener and HAM Radio operator; call sign N9NWO. Along with his wife, Iris, he is survived by two sons: Geoffrey (Christine) Dean of Virginia, Jason (Kathleen) Dean of New Jersey; one daughter, Kristine Dean of California; sisters, Rebecca (Gary) Schnepp of Lansing, MI, Loni (Randy) La Guire of Lafayette, Melissa (Brent) Greek of Orient, OH, Marcia Southerland of Miamisburg, OH, Valerie (Wes) Coffey of Owosso, MI; and three grandchildren, Gabriel, Gerrie, and Nora. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Ronald Dean, bother-in-law Dale Southerland, and nephew, Zachary La Guire. A visitation and service will be held at Hippensteel with military honors on Thursday, February 10, 2022. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. service will begin at 11 a.m. with Reverend Wes Coffey officiating.
