Carl Howard Olin who passed away at age 95 on November 21, 2012 in Tigard, Oregon. Carl was born on March 25, 1917 and was the eldest of 6 children born to Oscar F. Olin and Anna Louise (Carlstrom) Olin.
Carl graduated from Wahoo High School in 1935, where he majored in music and earned a Summer School Scholarship to the University of Nebraska. He met Esther Pauline Kahm in Lincoln in the Summer of 1936 and married her in December of that year. Together they moved to San Diego, CA in January, 1938, and their daughter Janice was born in September, 1939.
The family then moved to Portland, OR, where Carl became employed by Willamette Iron and Steel Co. as a machinist. On August, 1942, son Gary was born. Carl worked as a machinist during all WWII at which time he was promoted to foreman and then machinist estimator.
Later, the company was purchased by Guy F. Atkinson Co., and Carl was promoted to Chief Estimator/Chief Planner of the Willamette Division.
In 1966, he was hired as General Manager of L-M Equipment Company, then promoted to Vice President. He developed and patented a Firewood Harvester, while working as a consultant for Bloomfield farms of Los Altos, CA. He retired in 1982, and traveled for many years with his beloved wife Esther.
Carl was an active member of Calvin Presbyterian Church in Tigard, Oregon. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club of Tigard and served as President and Treasurer for several years before transferring to the Cedar Mills branch. He also was an active Ham Radio operator and loyal member of the Dip Sea Net Ham Club.
He is survived by his sister Lucille Townsend, of Newberg, OR; brother Russell Olin of Boulder, CO; daughter Janice Adams of Oakdale, CA; son Gary Olin of Tigard, OR; 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
