Richard was born July 14, 1926, in Madison, Wis., to Paul E. and Sarah (Wylie) Hoppe. Dick graduated from West High School in Madison in 1943 and from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, where he received his bachelor's degree in biology. He married Theora Story on March 15, 1952, in Madison. Dick was a WWII veteran serving in the United States Army as part of the infantry occupation in Germany. He loved music, played the piano and organ and liked jazz. He enjoyed hiking. He handled several emergency traffic messages via HAM radio ND5T. He was employed with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for 30 years. His work included protecting endangered species. He was a self-taught computer expert. He is survived by his wife; daughter; brother; sister; grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren. He was preceded by his parents, sister Marilyn Soule and brother-in-law, Ken Finger. |
