First Call: KAØCDM issued in 1978

First licensed in 1978 and my first rig was a Kenwood TS-520. I was inactive for years while in school at Rush Medical College in Chicago, during my radiology residency at the University of Iowa, and while starting my profession as a diagnostic radiologist. I finally got back into the hobby in 2016! Talk about a whole new hobby! Right before Christmas of 2016, I got a surprise call from Gary Liljegren (W4GAL) an old friend of my father's (K0AMB) who also happened to mentor me in the 70's while living in Des Moines, IA.lost touch for years after he moved away to sunny Florida. He was in the process of moving again, and I asked if he had any gear that I could buy. So my first purchase back into the hobby was his Kenwood TS-590S.

I love CW (despite being a little rusty after 20 years) and prefer that as my operating mode of choice. SSB is enjoyable, but I find myself listening more than talking, especially when I am working on call

I recently moved to Sheboygan, WI. (EN63ds) from my rural home in Steinthal, and I am currently located halfway between Milwaukee and Green Bay, Wisconsin.

I am a radiologist by profession and an amateur photographer, apiculturalist, boater, aviator, biker, camper, pianist and radio operator for fun. I have little time for any one hobby, but as I get older, I realize that radio will be one of them that I can enjoy for a very long time.
