Chapter 94
NM5DP - David R. 'Dave' Patek
First Call: KN9JXH issued in 1958       Other Call(s): K9JXH

Dave earned his General Class license while in high school though he allowed it to expire in 1965 during his college studies. He holds a PhD in Biochemistry and an MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Dave has served as a Staff Engineer at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory working in areas of instrumentation and controls, as well as, the design and development of machine vision inspection systems. In start-up companies, he has participated in the development of both the automated license plate reader and image processing/analysis software. In conjunction with these activities, he has been employed at times by Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh.

Upon retiring, Dave, re-acquired his General Class license and earned his Extra. Though somewhat mike-shy, Dave feels like a kid in a candy shop when it comes to the availability of neat technologies that are now available to amateur-radio enthusiasts.

He has been experimenting in various areas of amateur radio including packet radio (primarily for RMSExpress), Raspberry Pi applications, mesh networking, WSPR, and software defined radio (SDR). He is a member of the Torrence County ARES and several clubs including the High Desert Amateur Radio Club, the Estancia Valley Amateur Radio Association, and the Albuquerque chapter of the Quarter Century Wireless Association.
