Lawrence Shores Woolsey, age 86, of Little Rock, died July 11, 2007. He was the son of the late Claud and Era Shores Woolsey. Born July 31, 1920 in Fayetteville, Arkansas, he graduated from LRHS (now Central High) where he was a member of Delta Sigma. He graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville with a degree in Electrical Engineering, where he was included in Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities, was President of Omicron Delta Kappa, leadership fraternity, Tau Beta Pi, Engineering Honor Society, AIEE, Scabbard and Blade, Pershing Rifles, Lt. Col. in R.O.T.C., and Sigma Chi fraternity.
After his Army service in WWII he became an Associate at Marion L. Crist and Associates, Consulting Engineers. He was a Registered Professional Engineer in Arkansas, Tennessee, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Iowa. He served as President of the Consulting Engineers Council, was on the Board of Adjustment for the City of Little Rock, was formerly on the Board of Deacons at Pulaski Heights Baptist Church, the Board of Elders at Fellowship Bible Church, The Board of the Ozark Conferences, the Young Life Committee and was a discussion leader for Bible Study Fellowship. He was currently a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
When he was in good health his hobbies were ham radio, golf, auto mechanics, and duck hunting. He made several trips to Haiti where he set up a ham radio station at the Christian Mission of Pignon Hospital, taught Dr. Guy Theodore Morse code and helped him pass the F.C.C. test. Before the use of computers and cell phones this provided mission trip doctors a means to keep in touch with family back home. He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Mary Elizabeth Woolsey Whitney brother, Donald Shores Woolsey, brother-in-law, Thomas Whitney, brother-in-law V.O. Purvis, Jr. and sister-in-law Laura Belle Purvis.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Sue Purvis Woolsey, a daughter Virginia Woolsey Robinson (Michael D.), sons John Breckinridge Woolsey (Debra), Dallas, TX and Benjamin Terry Woolsey (Frances), Austin, TX, 7 grandchildren: Rachel Boling (Kent) and David Robinson of Little Rock, Breck Woolsey (Seeley), William Woolsey and Margaret Woolsey, Dallas, TX ,George Woolsey and Mary Woolsey of Austin, TX, great grandchildren: Reece Woolsey and Ridge Woolsey, Dallas, TX, brother-in-law George Purvis, and sister-in-law, Thelma Purvis of Phoenix, AZ and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family wishes to extend a special gratitude to the medical staff of the BMC ICU South for their excellent care.
Visitation will be Friday, July 13th from 5-7pm at Roller Chenal Funeral Home (501)224-8300.
A memorial service will be held at Immanuel Baptist Church on Saturday, July 14th at 11:00 a.m.
