OM Franz Wanzenboeck - OE3WZ
District Heads
Died on Saturday, February 17, 1996, suddenly and unexpectedly in his 86th year.
Franz Wanzenboeck began listening to the first radio broadcasts at the age of 13 with a home-made detector. The magazine "RADIOWELT" in which the radio program for Vienna was announced, also reported on the new hobby. Here he took the opportunity to further educate himself as a budding amateur radio. As later circuits were also published, Franz Wanzenboeck built his first lamp apparatus (former name for radio tube). As a result, soon his first short-wave apparatus, but amateur radio broadcasts were very few at that time.
As a former intelligence officer of the K and K Kriegsmarine he learned the Morsen. In 1928 he volunteered for the telegraph company 3 of the Federal Army of the 1st Republic. During his military service, he was also forbidden from listening to amateur radio broadcasts, because members of the army were forbidden to play amateur radio. So he remained until the successful passing of the amateur radio examination on 23 July 1954 SWL.
The procurement of components was not always easy at this time, but it was soon his first TX, Osc. with EF 14, driver with RL 12 P 10 and PA with RL 12 P 35, power 25 watts only CW, antenna LW 41. Later, a KW receiver Radione R3 was added. Since that time OE3WZ was constantly on all tapes QRV, numerous diplomas testify to it.
As decades-long district manager of the ADL 306, he worked tirelessly until recently.
The introduction of the attractive and coveted "Wine Country Diploma" goes back to his initiatives and has brought him great prestige and popularity. The 'VSV thanked him for his merits with the highest award to be given.
In the orientation of the radio exhibitions in Laa an der Thaya, he had a significant share. However, he was unfortunately no longer able to take part in the 10th International Radio Exhibition, we will always keep an honorable memory for our OM Franz Wanzenboeck.
