WILLIAMS, William (Bill)
After a life filled with music, flowers and laughter, the Williams family is saddened to announce the passing of their patriarch, William Francis (Bill) Williams on Thursday, October 29, 2020. Born in Tisdale, Sask. April 14, 1928, Bill managed a number of careers - as a florist (in Calgary and Vancouver), musician (playing a mean piano!), and a salesman, to name just a few. An avid Ham (radio operator) for most of his adult life, VA6BW has gone off the air for one final time.
Bill met Gertrude (Gert) his wife of 68+ years in Regina, and they were married in 1952. Together they raised their family in Regina, Tisdale and Calgary, then spent 25 years in Vancouver before returning to Calgary in 2005. Bill is survived by Gert and their 3 daughters: Beverley Blue (Kim), Doreen Stangowitz (Gord), and Wendy Titterington (Blaine), as well as 2 grandchildren, Kevin Stangowitz (Joscelyn) and Erin Cattani (Glenn), and 4 great- grandchildren, Kira, Isla, Joel and Clark. Bill is also survived by his sister Pat MacLean, and was predeceased by his parents Guy H and Alice, his sister Marion Pierce and his brother Fred Williams.
The family would also like to express their gratitude to Dr. Maggie Lee, the nurses and support staff from Unit 73, Rockyview General Hospital, and the staff at Auburn Heights, for their care and compassion. Thank you.
At his request, there will be no funeral service, and those who wish to send flowers might consider making a donation to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation in Bill's name.
