Dad often said that the only true heros from the Korean War were the soldiers that didn't come home. Today he walks with his heros in the hereafter. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of W. O. John Aubrey Brown, CD (MID) ret. Born June 1, 1929, he was a member of the 1st Battalion of the Royal 22nd Regiment, giving 25 years of his life to the Canadian military. Serving in the Korean War (1952-53) he was Mentioned-in-Dispatches on March 23, 1953 for "Gallant and Distinguished Service".
He retired from the military in 1972 and was involved in construction, car sales and John was lastly employed with the Province of New Brunswick as the Executive assistant to the Minister of Labour under Joe Momberquet 1982 - 1987. John was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 93, a member of the "Radio Amateurs Old Timers Club" VE1LZ and a strong Conservative Party supporter. After retirement, John and his wife Nora enjoyed many years wintering in Florida and they both had full and satisfying retirements.
He is survived and will be lovingly missed by his daughters Jacqueline LePage and Eve and by sons Philip (Anita) and Iain (Lori). John is also loved and missed by his grandchildren Diane Williams, Shawn, Angie & James Brown and by his great grandchildren and many cousins throughout the Maritimes and beyond. He will also be missed by the many friends and acquaintances he acquired throughout his military and other careers, and thru his political activities and community work. They are far too many to be mentioned, but they will all be lovingly remembered by our family for the friendship they gave to our father.
John is predeceased by his father John Murray Brown a veteran of World War 1, his mother Audrey Johanna Cohoon, his stepmother Stella Brown and by his wife Nora Bernadette (Gillis) Brown and their daughter Nora.
Dad's final posting was the Veterans Health Unit in Fredericton where he passed peacefully under the loving attention and awesome care of the Nurses and Staff who treated him with the utmost respect and dignity which all veterans of all the wars old and new deserve. Our family deeply appreciates their kindness. Our Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather was a kind, generous and loving man and he will be in our hearts forever.
Visitation will take place at the Oromocto Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 13th, 2016 from 7 to 9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church on Thursday, April 14th, 2016 at 3:00 pm. The Branch 93 Legion will honour John with a tribute service during the evening viewing. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the charity of the donor.s choice.
