Chapter 70

I was first licensed as VE1IJ back in 1965, shortly after leaving the RCAF. In 1966, I moved to Ontario, where I obtained my current call. I have been married to my XYL, Barbara, for over 40 years and we are now firmly esconced in our new home on 2.5 acres. I am active on both VHF and HF, using primarily an Icom 735 which I picked up at a swap meet in 2011. I have since purchased a used Kenwood TS430S as a second rig along with a 4-el tribander for 20,15 and 10. In addition I have now acquired a 64 foot Delhi DMX tower. My other antennas are a 260 foot droopy dipole for 160, an inverted vee on 80, and separate dipoles for 40 and 20, with a common feeder.

Much of my on-air time is the spent handling NTS traffic which is an enjoyable and rewarding part of this great hobby of ours. I do however still enjoy an occasional CW ragchew when time permits.

The two-year plan that I referred to in an earlier post has fallen by the wayside. Barb and I have purchased a lot on the outskirts of the village of Tamworth Ontario, about 10 miles NE of our current location. I hope to commence building there in the spring and will finally have my tower erected beside the garage. My shack will be located in a small room behind the mud room just inside the back door. I plan on having a workbench set up in the crawlspace which is actually more like a low basement. I have updated my grid locator information on this site to reflect this move. Any snail mail for me should still be directed to the old address, 1233 Pinegrove Rd, Roblin ON K0K 2W0 Canada. The new address will come into effect in late summer 2015.. I am looking forward to this new smaller lot, with so much less maintenance. Those of you who are past a certain age can certainly identify with what I am talking about. The brain is willing but the body ain't.

CU on the bands.
