TAYLOR, Allan Keith - on Thursday, January 26th, 2012 in his 97th year, Al passed away peacefully at Crown Ridge Place, Trenton. Beloved husband of the late Gertrude (Nieman) Taylor; he leaves behind his loving daughters Marilyn Jenns and her husband Wilfred, Betty Elsey and her husband Robert, Bonnie Walker and her husband Ronald, Sandra Petrie and her companion Larry Cunningham and Gertrude de Sa. He was a loving grandfather of ten, great-grandfather of ten and great-great grandfather of two. Al's life work was in the radio and television field and his hobby was as a licensed radio amateur beginning in North Bay in 1935, where he was licensed with the call sign VE3PI. At the outbreak of World War II, all Canadian Radio Amateurs were ordered to shut down and dismantle their stations. During the war years he was with RCA Victor Co. Limited in Montreal, engaged in supervisory work of testing transmitters for the Armed Forces. At the termination of hostilities, he joined the staff of AM Radio Station CJAD in Montreal as Chief Engineer. He next moved to Toronto as Chief Engineer of AM Radio Station CKEY. In 1960 when a second TV channel was licensed as Channel 9, CFTO-TV, he changed to TV as Transmitter Supervisor until retirement in 1980. While with Channel 9, he was involved in the planning and later the installation of the TV transmitting facilities in the CN Tower. At the time of his passing Al held the call letters VE3WV. Al was a Life Member of The American Radio Relay League, a Life Member of Radio Amateurs Canada, a Life Member of the Quarter Century Wireless Association, a Life Member of the Thornhill Radio Amateurs Club and a member of the Quinte Amateur Radio Club. Service for Al was held at the WALAS FUNERAL HOME, Warkworth on Saturday, January 28th, 2012 followed by interment at Mount Evergreen Cemetery. Pallbearers were Al's seven grandsons. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff of Crown Ridge Place for their ongoing care and support of Allan first in the Retirement Residence and later the Long Term Care Wing. Memorial Donations to the War Amps of Canada or the Stephen Lewis Foundation would be appreciated.
