ILOTT, Eric Charles - Lieutenant-Colonel (Ret. 1974) RCEME, Canadian Armed Forces Ontario Hydro (Ret. 1984) Toronto Head Office. Passed away, peacefully, on January 13, 2015 at Arbour Heights in Kingston, at the age of 95.
He was a wonderful gentleman and gentle man. Dearly loved and cherished husband of Winifred Ilott (nee Potter) for 72 years. Loving Father of Pamela Moore (Jim), Chalk River, and Kathleen Stoneman (Doug), Petawawa. Grandfather of Christine Rodych (Steve), Michael Moore, Martin Stoneman (Lauren) and Rob Moore (Loren). Great-Grandfather of Kevin, Samantha (Ryan), Corey (Keshya), Alyssa, Ethan and Finnegan Eric.
Eric's great loves were his wife Winifred, his family, Ham Radio (as VE3XE and G2JK), birding, nature and travel. For 80 years he was a proud member of the Radio Society of Great Britain (RSGB). He had also been an active member of the Radio Amateurs of Canada, Ontario, Ottawa and Kingston, the Amateur Radio Emergency Service, Kingston and the Quarter Century Wireless Association.
Eric used these skills as a Radio Security Service "Listener" for the British War Office, sending his daily reports to Bletchley Park, before starting his military service as Radar and Radio Officer in the British Army.
Eric was also instrumental, with friends in the Signals Corps, in bringing the first-ever television signal to Kingston - to the top of the CFB Kingston water tower.
Eric and Win immigrated to Canada in 1947, joined R.C.E.M.E., and lived in Kingston, Ottawa, Fort Churchill and Winnipeg. Eric's family wish to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Beck and all the staff at Arbour Heights for their amazing care and support - during this time and throughout the four years Eric and Win have resided there.
Cremation has taken place under the care of the JAMES REID FUNERAL HOME.
In lieu of a service family and friends are asked to share their memories with Win at any time.
Donations in Eric's memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Kingston or a charity of your choice.
