FRANK E. LAY VE4ZN October 8, 1929 - October 18, 2009
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Frank Lay, on Sunday, October 18. Frank is survived by his beloved wife, Lorraine, sons Norman (Sharon), Brian (Jill), and Gordon (Helen); grandchildren, Rachel, Morgan, Robyn, Jeffrey, Michael and Jackson; sister Joyce Cameron. Also left to mourn are Lorraine's children, Heidi (Wade), Mark (Tania) and grandchildren, Brennan, Jayden, Paul and Andrew. Remembered also by cousin Alice Reid and family.
During his career Frank held several senior positions with Transport Canada. He began in Winnipeg as Superintendent, Maintenance and Operations Division. He was promoted to Chief of the Division in Ottawa. While there he was appointed Director of Telecommunications Bureau and in this role traveled to many parts of the world. His career took him back to Winnipeg as Administrator, Central Region. He remained in this position until his retirement in 1985.
Frank's retirement years were filled with the activities he loved most. He was an avid golfer, winning many tournaments in the Senior Division. His HAM radio was never far from his side and he will be sadly missed by his radio friends. He and Lorraine traveled extensively, including their yearly winter vacations in Florida. Frank lived his life to the fullest!
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, October 23 at 11:00 a.m. at the Selkirk Golf and Country Club.
