On 23 December 2020, surrounded by family, Frederick William Joyce passed away at the age of 83 in Calgary.
Fred will be remembered by his family and friends for his sense of humor, and his joy of life.
Fred grew up in a military family and spent his childhood moving across and up and down his beloved country of Canada. He translated his passion for all things in military communications into an over 30 year career as a member of the Canadian Armed Forces Army Militia, serving in many different aspects of the Signal Corps including as the Commanding Officer of 745 Signals Squadron (STAND PROUD) and completing his last appointment as the Commander of the Northern Alberta Militia District.
Fred also spent a "second career" with the Department of Transportation as a radio operator and airport inspector, retiring after a 35 year career from Edmonton.
Fred was predeceased by his father and mother Bill and Anne, his brothers Lorry and Peter, and his sister Donna.
Fred is survived by Lorna, their children Derek (Kathy) and Michelle (Mike) and grandchildren Jillian, Jenna, Adam and Justine.
A farewell ceremony will be scheduled when we can gather once again.
