FARMER _ Albert "Bert" George 1913 - 2006 Bert Farmer passed away peacefully at the Chinook Hospice on December 10, 2006 at the age of 93 years.
Bert is survived by seven children, Arleen (Duane) Bouska, Max Farmer, Gerry (Lorraine) Farmer, Pamela (Wayne) Cooper all of Calgary, Louise (Wallace) Rieger of Medicine Hat, Richard (Gay) Farmer of Acme and Kelly (Tom) of Saskatoon; as well as fifteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Fran; daughter Linda Farmer; grandson Woody farmer and granddaughter Bree Eriksen.
Bert was born in Plymouth, England on July 25, 1913 and came to Calgary when he was ten months old.
Bert had a passion for ham radio (VE6PW). Some of his outstanding achievements were the DXCC Honor Roll with over three hundred and ten countries, the "Island On The Air" IOTA Honor Roll with six hundred confirmed islands, the U.S. Island award certificate #1 where he had over three hundred and fifty confirmed, and the Canadian Island "Plaque Of Excellence" with over three hundred and fifty Canadian islands confirmed.
Bert was in the RCAF 120 Bomber Reconnaissance Squadron from 1939 to 1945.
He worked at the chemical plants of Calgary and Medicine Hat. He also worked at Hillhurst Electronics, and traveled to Pincher Creek and Hay River. Bert was a mailman for Canada Post.
He was a stamp collector and worked it up to a very valuable hobby, and was also a coin collector.
He retired at sixty-five. He was well liked by many people throughout his life and was a humorous person.
Bert recently lived at the Spruce Lodge.
