Gene Schouweiler passed on May 21, 2018 after an eight-month illness. He was born on June 18, 1939 to Joseph and Hannah Schouweiler on the family farm in Douglas County, MN. Preceded in death by his wife 'Peg'. Survived by his brothers George and Lloyd Schouweiler and extended family in Alexandra, MN. Gene attended Central High, class of 1957, in Alexandra, MN, graduating from Leuzinger High School in Lawndale, CA and received an associate degree from El Camino Junior College, CA. Gene retired from the Wyoming Air National Guard/Minnesota Air National Guard after 30 years of service as a USAF aircraft loadmaster. Gene was a small business owner in Fort Collins, CO retiring to Green Valley, AZ in 2004. He was a licensed ham radio operator for over 60 years, an active member and past president of the Green Valley Amateur Radio Club. Gene held a commercial pilot license flying his own Beech Bonanza until very recently.

Gene WØKAD sat down at the radio and worked stations from around the world. A highlight was a nice long contact with Roger VK2RO in TOCUMWAL, AUSTRALIA. Roger was one of many stations that were willing to take the time required to talk to some of the Scouts directly.
