Willard (Will) Kampmeier, 80, of Silver Lake, KS, passed away on June 12, 2018.
He was born on July 5, 1937 in Kansas City, KS to Willard Ernest and Edith Kampmeier.
He graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1955. He married Shirley King. They later divorced. He attended Pittsburg State University where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in VoTech Education and a Master's Degree in Counseling. While attending college he met Donna Thompson, and they were married January 12, 1978 and the family settled in Pittsburg, KS. They later moved to Silver Lake, KS where he resided at the time of his passing.
Will was employed by IBM for 20 years. He also worked for Mt. Carmel Hospital in Pittsburg for several years. He worked for over 25 years at Kaw Area Technical School, which later became Washburn Tech.
As a child he was an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Kansas City, KS.
Will was a HAM radio operator for over 60 years, using the call sign W0KJ. He was a volunteer firefighter and EMT for just over 33 years with the Shawnee County Fire District #1 (611) Silver Lake. He was a member of the United States Navy Reserves, an Auxiliary Service Volunteer for the Kansas City Police Department, a member of the Lions Club, and American Legion.
He was a Boy Scout during his childhood, and he received the Order of the Arrow during his high school years. As an adult he was a unit commissioner for Troop 55 of the Jayhawk Area Council.
He attended St. Paul's Theological Seminary in Kansas City, MO and was a local pastor for several years with Circleville, Mayetta, and Potawatomi United Methodist Churches.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Kampmeier of Silver Lake; a sister, Sharon Malcolm (Ken); five children, Marilyn Vest (The Late Charlie Vest), Willard Michael Kampmeier (Cindy), Chris Kampmeier, Susan Beers (Stan), and Regina Kampmeier (Brent); as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends during a visitation from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Silver Lake United Methodist Church, 204 Madore Street, Silver Lake, KS 66539. A funeral service will begin at 3:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery.
