Bob passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 16, 2013 after a full and love-filled life. He was born and raised in the Strawberry Hill neighborhood of Kansas City, Kansas and later moved to Overland Park, Kansas. His many accomplishments include earning a degree in chiropractics but his passion was electronics. He was a pioneer in the electronics industry and had a top secret government clearance. He was a competitive roller skate dancer, a Ham Radio Operator for 60 years, taught dog obedience training for more than 20 years and owned a champion German Shepard. He served on the board of directors of the Brookridge Country Club in Overland Park, KS and was also an avid sailor. He was always inventing things to make life easier and loved a good project.
After retiring to Sarasota Bob volunteered at the Ringling Museum as a tram driver for eight years. He was an avid golfer and one of the original members of the Mote Ranch Golf Association. Bob was a member of the Sarasota chapter of Amateur Radio operators and the Sarasota PC Users Group. He was a dedicated usher at the Children's Mass at St. Martha Church.
Bob leaves behind a loving family including his wife of 32 years, Kathleen, sons Gary Modrcin (Ann) of Olathe, KS, Larry Modrcin (Diane) of Parrish, FL, step-children Linda Formella (Joe) of Bradenton, FL, Mike Griffin (Kim) of Tampa, FL, Jim Griffin (Kim) of Odessa, FL and Barbara Gutierrez of Sarasota, FL. He also leaves behind 12 grand-children and 7 great grand-children who loved him dearly.
Visitation and Rosary will be on Friday, Dec. 20 at the Toale Brothers funeral home at 40 N. Orange Ave. Sarasota, FL, 34236 between 6:00 and 8:00 pm.
A Catholic Memorial Mass will be at St. Martha's Church Saturday, Dec 21 at 10:00 am located at 200 N. Orange Ave. A celebration of Bob's life will be held following Mass in Brother Geenen Hall at the church. His ashes will be buried at a later date at Calvary Cemetery in Kansas City, KS.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Tidewell Hospice or St. Martha's Catholic School.
