Johnson, Charles D. "Charlie" age 79, of Breezy Point, MN passed away April 13, 2012. Born in Minneapolis and raised in Anoka, MN, Charlie dearly loved his country. He graduated from Anoka High School in 1950, served in the Army from 1951 to 1953, earned bachelor and Ph.D degrees in chemistry from the University of Minnesota, and spent his career working in the defense industry at Hercules, Honeywell, and Alliant Techsystems. He was dedicated to his work and a proud recipient of the prestigious Honeywell Sweatt and Picattiny Arsenal Firepower awards (which the Army gave him at his retirement dinner to commemorate his career-long contributions and unquestionable integrity). Charlie greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, plinking with a .22 rifle, Herb Brooks-coached hockey teams, the Vikings, bridge, classical music, and old Western movies (especially John Wayne). He was thankful to have grown up in Anoka, MN, where he received an excellent education and spent many carefree days playing with his buddies on the Rum River. He spent the past 15 winters in Green Valley, AZ.
Charlie was preceded in death by parents Margaret and Rudy.
Married 55 years to beloved wife Bertie (Wagner). Survived by brother Jeff (Jan) and sister Liz Smith (David), sons Brian (Jackie), Charles Bradley, and Barry (Joan), daughter Brynne, grandchildren Blake, Bailey, Grace, and Chloe.
Charlie passed peacefully with his family at his side in Brainerd, MN. A private inturnment and celebration of his life will take place in Anoka this fall. Charlie was an "honest & Godly man" who went home to "meet his maker".
His family mourns his loss but is comforted by cherished memories of happy times growing up in Cumberland, MD and Eden Prairie, MN.
