Larry J. Shima, W0PAN, is a candidate for Director. He was first licensed as WNØPAN, in 1953, at the age of 15. He has been continuously licensed for the past 40 years. He currently holds an Advanced Class license.
Shima has served as Section Communications Manager for Minnesota, ARRL Dakota Director and Vice Director. He served as the Chairman of the ARRL Management and Finance Committee for three years and was a Founding Director of the ARRL Foundation. Shima is currently an "at large" member of the QCWA Plans and Programs Committee.
Shima holds two DXCC awards, one from Hawaii and one from WØ land. Additionally, be holds WAZ SSB, Al-OP, and a number of other operating awards. He has been active in contesting for many years. He is a member of Central Oklahoma Chapter 63 and the Oklahoma DX Association.
Shima served seven years on active duty with the U.S. Navy as a Destroyer Supply Officer, Navy Auditor, and Fleet Budget Program Officer on CINCPAC Fleet Staff. He retired in 1980 as a Lieutenant Commander.
His business career has included senior financial executive positions with Honeywell, Super Valu Stores, Target Stores, Atwood Distributing, Inc., and the League. Currently, he is the General Manager and Chief Operating Officer of Central Plains Distributing, Inc., in Oklahoma City.
Larry Shima and his wife have six adult children and four grandchildren (so far). In addition to his ham radio hobby, Larry is an avid bass fisherman.
Larry states, "Through my twenty-four plus years of leadership involvement in Amateur Radio organizational activities I have gained a great deal of insight as to, and appreciation for, what makes volunteer organizations thrive. I look forward to working with QCWA officers and directors in enhancing the future of QCWA."
