Verne Fletcher Nipper, age 98, passed away at Remington Heights Omaha, Nebraska on October 5, 2018.
Fletcher was born on September 21, 1920, to Ruth Query Nipper and Verne W. Nipper in Omaha, Nebraska.
He attended Columbian Elementary and Technical High School in Omaha.
During WWII, Fletcher served in the Navy as a radio operator.
After the war, he studied electrical and mechanical engineering at the University of Nebraska and graduated in 1951. Fletcher loved to work and travel as an engineer.
After his formal retirement, he continued to work as a contractor until his eightieth year.
Fletcher had many interests outside of work, as well. He enjoyed gardening, amateur radio, mentoring students in math and English, wine making, photography, martial arts, writing about his Navy years, studying languages, and reading.
Fletcher married Shirley Ann Sims on June 1, 1949. They raised five children.
He is survived by his children Paul (Pamela) Nipper, Thomas (Linda) Nipper, Christina (Pete) Karnowski, James (Cynthia) Nipper, and Janette Nipper; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and nieces Nancy Flagg (Joe Hegarty) and Brenda Schneider.
Fletcher was preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley, brother Donald, and sister Helen.
Services will be held at Crosby Burket Swanson Golden Funeral Home at 11902 Center St on October 20, at 1:00 PM.
VISITATION: Friday, October 19, from 6-8pm, also at the Funeral Home.
