OM Dean WA7EPA Q# 20268 Dorothy Mae (McCune) Baldwin Figgins Dorothy Mae (McCune) Baldwin Figgins died 6 January 2021. Dorothy was 93 when she passed away in Las Cruces, New Mexico after a brief illness. Dorothy was born to Homer Hugh and Margaret Hume (Tickler) McCune on 5 January 1928 north of Inland, Clay, Nebraska. She was the second of three daughters born to the McCunes. Dorothy's older sister, Ellen Mary McCune died as an infant. Dorothy's younger sister is Doris Marie (McCune) Fisher [Robert E.] of Sutton, Clay, Nebraska. When Dorothy was a child the McCune family lived southeast of Inland on a farm next to Highway 6, but eventually moved into Harvard, Clay, Nebraska. She graduated from Harvard High School in 1945. Dorothy and Eugene E. Baldwin met when he walked his oldest sister, Donna, and her friend Dorothy to their high school play in which the girls took part. Gene and Dorothy were married on Christmas Day 1945 in Harvard, Clay, Nebraska. They had four children: Frances Mae (Baldwin) Wormuth Dell [William]; Linda Sue (Baldwin) Beck Stauffer [Kenneth]; James Eugene Baldwin [Marlys]; and Harvey Hugh Baldwin. At the time of her passing she had 18 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and 31 great-great-grandchildren, plus many extended family. Dorothy retired from The First National Bank of Boulder, Colorado. She and Gene moved to Las Cruces after both had retired. After Gene's death 13 February 1989, Dorothy married Walter Dean Figgins on 9 June 1990 in Loveland, Colorado even though they resided in Las Cruces. Dean died 7 May 2009. Dorothy was a long time member of the Amateur Radio Relay League, The Quarter Century Relay Asso, and the Mesilla Valley Radio Club. She was preceded in death by: her parents; older sister; husbands Gene and Dean; Darla Jean [Erbert] Stubblefield (a foster child); and, a great-grandson, Christopher Andrew Beck. Cremation at La Paz Graham Funeral Home. Her ashes will be interred with Dean's at Fort Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso, Texas at a later date due to the Covid 19 pandemic.
