Herbert R. Leupp 79, Mercer, died March 3, 2013, at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck, after a long illness. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 7, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Randy Emgarten officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Visitation is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at DaWise-Perry Funeral Services, Mandan, and continues one hour prior to the service at the church.
Herb was born Dec. 19, 1933, in Mandan, to Christ and Beatrice (Schow) Leupp. He spent most of his school years in Stanton and graduated from Washburn High School in 1951. He attended the University of North Dakota, for a short time, before going to work in the radio business, where he worked his entire career.
On Nov. 10, 1957, he married Sylvia Erdmann in Golden Valley. They made their home in Bismarck, and then moved to Mercer in 2000. Herb began working as an engineer at KFYR Radio in the 1950s. He then went to work for KBOM, Mandan, where for a brief time, he was even part of a live radio show called the .Leupp and Light Show.. He went back to KFYR for the duration of his career, and was there the day television went live in North Dakota for the very first time. His job at KFYR meant the world to him and he always strived to make it the best sounding radio station around. He did whatever he could to keep it on-the-air no matter what happened. He also enjoyed spending countless hours burning the midnight oil visiting with people across the world via Ham Radio.
For the past 40 years, he and his wife, Sylvia, spent most of their summers enjoying their lake cabin at Brush Lake, where he loved spending time with his family and friends enjoying the .lake life..
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia, Mercer; two sons, Mitch (Tammy) Leupp, Stanley, and Ron (Elizabeth) Leupp, Spring, Texas; one daughter, Terri (Mark) Wilhelm, Bismarck; his grandsons, Kellen, Jordan and Seth Leupp, Stanley; his granddaughters, Hailey Wilhelm, Bismarck, Amy Leupp, Oklahoma City, and Amanda Leupp, Austin, Texas; and one step-grandson, Kaleb Weaver, Spring, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his dad, Christ; his mom, Beatrice; his stepmother, Minnie; and his sister, Dorrine Strecker.
