Harold T. "Tom" Jones of Weymouth, passed away Feb. 25, 2013, at the age of 90. Tom was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and had lived in Weymouth for 60 years.
He attended the RCA Institute, New York City, Hemphill Diesel School NYC, Northeastern University and M.I.T. Tom retired after 38 years with Sturtevant Mill Co. in Dorchester. He was also a Coast Guard veteran of World War II.
Tom was former president of South Shore Amatuer Radio Club, member of ARRL (Amatuer Radio Relay League) and his radio handle was "Hal". He was a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers and Society of Mechanical Engineers.
He was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy F. (Broussard) Jones; father of Robert E. Jones of Ashland, Ronald T. Jones of Weymouth and Richard A. Jones of Weymouth; brother of the late Edward B.Jones; grandfather of Christopher Jones, Peter Jones married to Alice, Lisa Adams married to Ken and Tricia Jones. Also survived by six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours were held March 4, 4-8 p.m. in the McDonald Funeral Home, 40 Sea St.(off Rte. 3A-Bicknell Square), North Weymouth.
Funeral service was celebrated Tuesday at 10 O'clock in the McDonald Funeral Home. Burial in Old North Cemetery, Weymouth.
