Hurbin R. 'Hurb' Ingles
Haddock, GA

Chapter 49

Interested in SWL'ing and Amateur radio since the early 1960's, Hurb was 1st licensed in 1973 as WN1SSD. In 1974 he passed the Conditional Class license (military) and was assigned, WA1SSD. Later in that year upgraded to Advanced Class, at the FCC's Customs House office in Boston. Hurb is now an Amateur Extra. In 1999 Hurb changed his call to the current W1DOG.

Hurb is retired from Philips Medical Products, originally Hewlett Packard's Medical Products Group. He retired as a reliability engineer specializing in HALT/HASS, ESS, & failure analysis. W1DOG has been a manufacturing engineer, compliance engineer, technical manager and project leader in HP/Philips. Since moving to GA, Hurb last worked for 'MiGa and the CSRA Goodwill' as a Job Connections Facilitator and Instructor. Previous to Goodwill, Hurb worked for United Cerebral Palsy of Georgia and SC as a residential group home supervisor.

W1DOG spent 10 years in the US Army Security Agency in Advanced Electronic Systems. After a tour in Sinope, Turkey, he settled in as an instructor for the next 7 years teaching Complex Electronic Systems & Maintenance to the greater cryptologic community, at Ft. Devens, MA.

"W1DOG" did foster care for many types of dogs, but mostly English Springer Spaniels, including Mid-South ESRA, and is a past board member, and President of, New England ESS Rescue, Inc. Hurb worked for 5+ years as an assistant dog trainer at Gemini Dog Training. Later he taught K9 obedience for Georgia College & State University for 6 years. W1DOG also served on the board of, and as an animal trainer for, the "Animal Rescue Foundation, Inc.". Hurb remains interested in Training and Behavior. Guess that explains the 'W1DOG' callsign.

Hurb has been married for 40+ years to the same wonderful woman. Hurb and Linda have three (make that three plus) great grown children. From 1980 through the next 16 years Hurb and Linda were foster parents for the Massachusetts Department of Social Services. Hurb remains active with children as a "Rolling Reader" at Gray (Georgia) Elementary for the third grade. Hurb and Linda now reside in rural Middle Georgia after moving from Shirley Massachusetts. They have two Granddaughters in Alaska (Tok) and two Grandsons nearby in Georgia. Son still back in Massachusetts. Foster kids scattered throughout the country. Hurb and Linda have 2 dogs of their own, a cat, rabbit, also chickens, and ducklings. Think the term is; "Gentleman farmer" comes to mind.

Influence in and for Ham radio extended to my Son, Steven Ingles, W1SEI. Studying with Grandpa but yet to be licensed, Grandsons Tyler & Tristan Adams, age 12/11 years. I also have Brother-in-laws, WB1AMN Ed Salmi, KB1MGI, John Salmi, with Nephews, KB1LQC Bryce Salmi, KB1LQD Brenton Salmi, and KG1CGS Craig Salmi as licensed "Hams".

Georgian by choice, not an accident of birth!

Go Georgia Tech! Go Bulldogs! BUT >>>

Baseball, hockey and (American)Football? Well, the Red Sox (baseball), Bruins (Hockey) and Pats (American {{REAL}} Football) are still the tops... (Shhh, Boston College too....) Sorry Georgia...
