Joseph Paul Vignos Passed away peacefully at Mercy Medical Center on Dec. 5, 2014. He was born in Canton on Nov. 18, 1924, to the late Paul and Genevieve Vignos. He was pre-deceased by his brother, Dr. Paul J. Vignos Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia, of North Canton, four sons: Joseph Jr. (Akemi), David (Laurie), Charles (Christine) and Brian; grandchildren Paul and Cassidy; two nieces, and many cousins.
Joe graduated from Lehman High School in 1942 and the University of Notre Dame in 1949. He received his Amateur Radio license at the age of 15, and was a life member of the Canton Amateur Radio Club. After his freshman year at Notre Dame he joined the Navy and served as a Radio Technician on an LST in the Pacific. After graduating as an electrical engineer he worked briefly at the Hoover Co. then spent his remaining career designing computers with IBM Corp. in New York.
He enjoyed traveling, fishing, skiing, and spending winters in Florida.
He was a member of Basilica of Saint John the Baptist. The family wishes to thank the many wonderful nurses at Mercy Hospital for their care and kindness.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Basilica of Saint John the Baptist with The Very Reverend Ronald Klingler as celebrant. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 5-7 p.m. at the Lamiell Funeral Home.
