Rev. Hubert J. Topliff, or Hu as he was known to most, passed into God's loving hands on Friday evening, March 8, 2013, due to illness.
The son of the late Harrison and Margaret (Jordan) Topliff, Hu was born in 1920 in Fall River, MA. He was well loved by many, many people, most of all his family. While we will miss him dearly, he enjoyed a life filled with God's spirit and a deep commitment to his family and to helping others in time of need.
Hu was particularly proud of his airborne radio operator service, particularly during WWII. His service with the US Air force might well have continued had he not been called by God to ministry in 1947.
Ordained in 1955 he served Congregational churches in S. Killingly, Middletown, and Bridgeport, CT, and Pembroke, Chester, and Auburn, NH. Hu retired in 1985 and continued to live in Auburn at the time of his death, cared for by his daughter, Kristine.
While living in Pembroke, Hu served on the fire department and played a key role in the creation and leadership of the Tri-Town Ambulance service. In Auburn Hu served on the fire department, as a member of the Auburn Police Commission, as a bail commissioner, and as chaplain of several organizations.
He was very active in amateur radio, cultivating friends across the globe. One in particular hosted Hu and Kay during one of their visits to England to research the Topliff ancestry.
He was predeceased by his sister Margaret Ellen.
Burial in Head Cemetery in Hooksett.
