Warwick - Elmer E. Angell, Jr., Maj., USAF, Ret., 93, of Eagle Run, died Thursday, November 19, 2015 at Kent County Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Marguerite E. "Deeter" (Kebrek) Angell, RN
Born in Barrington, he was the son of the late Elmer E. Angell Sr. and the late Dorothy H. (Davis) Angell. He was called to duty and served during World War II as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army Air Corps with the Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron IX Tactical Air Command. He was then recalled to active duty by the United States Air Force on October 30, 1948 as an officer with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant, he served for 18 years until his retirement from active duty on June 30, 1966 with the rank of Major. He went on to serve as a civilian employee for another 20 years, retiring in 1986. After retirement, Elmer and Deeter spent 12 years living in Sun City Center, FL before returning to RI in 2004.
A former member of the First Congregational Church in Bristol, he attended the First Baptist Church of East Greenwich. He was a life member and past president of the Thomas Angell Family Association. A 50 year Mason and a Past Master of St. Albans Lodge No. 6, Bristol, he was also a member of Hope Chapter #6 R.A.M.; the Scottish Rite Valley of Providence; the East Bay Past Master's Association; Egypt Temple A.A.O.N.M.S., Tampa, FL; the Sun City Center (FL) Shrine Club where he served as president in 2002 and the Shriners Hospitals for Children 100 Million Dollar Club. He also belonged to International Order of Odd Fellows Lodge #19.
He is survived by two children: Thomas E. Angell of West Warwick, Laura B. Angell of Warwick, and one sister: Hope W. DiDomenico of Providence. He was the uncle of Robert DiDomenico, whose wife was the late Marcella, their daughter Melana & her husband John and their daughter Leah; Ann DiDomenico, whose husband is Dr. Van Miller, their children Dr. Kimberly Miller & her husband Dr. Ian Wu, whose children are Hayden and Cora, Dr. Jeffrey Miller and his wife Anja, and Philip DiDomenico.
A memorial service will be on Monday, November 23, 2015 at 10:00 AM at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick. Relatives and friends are invited. Calling hours will be held prior to the service from 9:00 . 10:00. Burial with military honors will be at the North Burial Ground, Bristol.
