Mr. Harry Walton Robinson of Charlotte, NC, formerly of Vineland, NJ, died Thursday January 15 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
Born August 12, 1912 in Asheville, he was the son of the late Clara and L. Cary Robinson.
Harry graduated from Asheville High in 1931 and Biltmore College in 1934.
A former member of the Haywood Street Methodist Church, Harry was a current member of the First United Methodist Church in Vineland, NJ.
Harry served as Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force during WW2 retiring as a life member of the Retired Officer Association where he served as president for 4 terms. He retired from Bell Telephone Laboratories, Whippany, NJ where he worked on the development of the Nike and Titon missles.
Harry was an avid amateur radio operator, call letters W2AZ, and a member of the American Radio League for over 70 years. He enjoyed his association with and membership in the Masonic Lodge, the Military National Sojourners, American Legion and VFW.
He is survived by his sister Grace Robinson Campbell; his nephew and wife, Cary and Pat Campbell; his niece and husband, Charlene and Colin Barker; his great niece and husband Kelly and Wilbur Long; his nephew, Drew Campbell Barker and his great grandniece, Clara Tate Long.
The funeral service for Harry will be held at 1:30 on Sunday, January 18, in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home in Asheville.
Interment will follow at Green Hills Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors prior to the service.
